Curriculum
Beyond the book
Education is the journey of discovery and growth and we take the best from CBSE, IGCSE and IB. Our curriculum is comprehensive and based on core subjects facilitating not just book knowledge but also development of concepts, ideas and skills.
GIS believes that learning is a dynamic process where each student learns differently. We provide developmentally appropriate practices by teaching in ways that match the way students develop and learn. We provide daily experiences to students to discover that they are competent and capable learners.
Language comprehensions, focusing on listening, speaking, reading and writing skills are fundamental to all subjects. Cognitive development, intellectual development, interpretation and thinking skills are more complex secondary skills that follow. The over-all personal, social and emotional development of each student is constantly monitored to ensure a strong foundation for adult years. The entire learning curve of each student is divided into four phases. Each phase requires focus on certain areas and hence has its own philosophy.
Pre School and Kindergarten
The early 3 to 5 years follow a thematic curriculum. Elements of the Montessori are also included with focus on peer learning where young students benefit from group activities and learn in tandem with their peers. Cultural and cognitive adaptability is facilitated by interaction among students from different milieus, which helps them understand divers cultures better.
- Learning is made interesting, fun and activity oriented at this level
- Participation of the students is encouraged through such activities as drawing and coloring, writing, group games, clay modelling, puzzles, flash cards and conversations.
- Poems and stories are dramatized using expressive actions
- Focus is on developing communication skills and on reinforcing an innate sense of discovery in everything that is taught
- Children learn to comprehend through a multi sensory approach as concepts in Number Work, English and E.V.S. are made clear with the use of multimedia
- Nature walks and regular educational tours to the Zoos, Railway Museums and Game Parks develop a sense of openness towards the world
Secondary (8 am to 3 pm)
The secondary schooling phase extends from classes VI to X. One of the most important functions of secondary schooling is enabling students to develop and master their areas of interest. Hence students are taught how to harness their talents in a constructive fashion. The emphasis is on logical and categorical thinking. Exploiting the infrastructural advantages such as libraries, multimedia halls and laboratories play a huge role in this stage of development. We ensure access to all that they require to complete projects, conduct experiments and study concepts. Feedback and assessment is very important in any learning process and students are provided the same, thus enabling them to build on their performance.
-
- The emphasis is on acquiring in-depth conceptual knowledge

Senior Secondary
The senior secondary stage consists of classes XI and XII which is the threshold to graduate studies. These two years require students to focus on specific areas of specialization. The learning evolves into a more competitive one and mentors recommend useful reading material as well as supplementary texts to add depth to learning. Children will be provided professional career counseling and advice on university education.
- Science and Commerce are among the main academic streams offered at GIS
